Summary
The objective of this fundamentals class is to enable students who haven't been formally trained in AutoCAD to create a basic 2D drawing. The class covers the indispensable core topics for working with AutoCAD. The teaching strategy is to start with a few basic tools that will let the student create and edit a simple drawing. We then continue to develop those tools, as well as introducing more advanced tools throughout the course. Not every command or option is covered, because the intent is to show the most essential tools and concepts.
The student progresses with more sophisticated techniques after understanding the basics. These will extend the user's mastery of the program. For example, we go beyond the basic skill of inserting a block to learn how to create blocks, and beyond the basic skill of using a template to understand the process of setting up a template.
Who Should Attend
This class is appropriate for new users. It is also suitable for those who have been self-taught or are returning users who want to strengthen their fundamental knowledge of today's AutoCAD. Those using AutoCAD LT would also benefit from this class.
The class is appropriate for all disciplines - architects, engineers, designers, facilities planners, drafters, technicians, and others who want to create or work with 2D drawings in AutoCAD.
Objectives
Upon completion of the class, the student will be able to create a basic 2D drawing using drawing and editing tools, organize drawing entities into layers, add text and basic dimensions, and prepare to plot. Students will be able to incorporate and manage Plot and Layouts tools. We recommend practice after class in order to reinforce these new skills.
