AutoCAD 2010 Dimensions Turned on Their Ear

Did you ever need to have your dimensions behave differently than everyone else’s? There is a new option in Dimension Styles that is for the really deep and thoughtful people who are looking for something special.

In AutoCAD 2010 you can set the dimension text view direction to Right to Left or Left to Right. This is found on the TEXT tab of your Modify Dimension Style dialog box. The default is Left to Right.  So what does this mean? If you change it to Right to Left, the text will be upside-down and backwards. See image below. Industries who have this as a requirement will find it significantly easier to set up the drawing dimensions.

Create a Custom Content Library in AutoCAD Mechanical 2010 - Fast and Easy

Here is one of the quickest and easiest ways I’ve found to create your own custom content library in AutoCAD Mechanical 2010. It’s just 1, 2, 3 and it’s done.

1.    Right click on existing block in your drawing. In the right-click menu, select Open in Content Editor. The block is then displayed in the Content Editor.

2.    On the top menu bar, click Save. The Save Content As dialog is displayed.

3.    Select a sub folder to place the content. (Note: You can make a subfolder by picking the New Library button.) Provide a name for the object, a view name, and click Save Content.

Tada!  You’re done! Your custom content can be found in the Content Library (AMCONTENTLIB). This is the fastest and easiest way to add content to the library. You can come back to your content at a later time to add more intelligence to the content if desired.
